In the novel, The Reluctant Warrior, the author, Mary Connealy, builds the tension incrementally from start to finish. Her fabulous writing carries the reader along keeping the reader flipping pages.

In this story set in the rugged high Sierra Nevada mountains, two children, a boy Ronnie and a girl Maddie Sue, together with a group of committed Christian men and women, come together to form a novel worth reading.

The children star as totally authentic little ones. The manly men, especially the hero Cam, provide the perfect foil for the evil, yet cowardly desperado, Raddo. The utterly feminine women, especially the heroine Gwen, exhibit heroic traits of bravery as well as tenderness in caring for the children, the men, and each other. The dog, named Wolf for the wild half of his pedigree, figures into the action in a very real way. Dog lovers are going to cheer for him and love him by the end! (That said, this isn't a dog story!) Taken together, this is a not to be missed read. The end is absolutely riveting!

This was a great read. Unpredictable and always taking a twist I had not expected. Mary Connealy books are my favorites. I’m anxiously waiting the next in this series.
Kind of a even-more-G-rated- Brides for Seven Brothers. A quick read, super predictable, and gets real churchy at the end. If there are more in the series I don’t need to read them
I wish this had been a longer story. I felt the book was a little short and not enough detail about the events which occurred n the first book. But the description of the Sierra's were good and it was a cute book.
I have read most of this author's books and have enjoyed all. This book is the topper! It seamlessly continues from the previous book with the changes in the point of view. Please read this story after the first book, so you know what is happening. I hope she continues this series with many books. I simply loved it!

Mary Conneally continues her High Sierra Sweethearts series with The Reluctant Warrior. Spiced with her classic hilarious dialogue, the men & women of High Sierra Ranch work together to dig out of the deep freezer they are stuck in. Together they plot to take down Raddo, the quintessential bloodthirsty varmint. With a fiery ending leaving the reader hanging, one hopes Ms. Conneally is writing fast so we can know what happens when the Chiltons arrive. Loved the book!
After I bought this I realized I read the first one in this series and didn't like it. But I have read books by this author that I liked so I plunged ahead. That's ten dollars wasted. I did like it better then the first but not by much. There were to many shallow goody two shoes people. To much time spent on quoting and then dissecting bible versus. The story itself was meh which was amazing considering they spent the entire story being stalked by a killer. I'm going to approach Mary Connealy books with caution in the future. They're an expensive mistake.
